In addition to his business interests, Dr. Cha Chi Ming is a distinguished philanthropist. He has enthusiasm for scientific and technological advancement in China by donating US$20 million to establish the Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation in 1994.

The Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation is based in Hong Kong and is highly respected in China. The Foundation offers recognition, support and research funding to award Chinese scientists for excellence in research in China. Its prestigious board of directors includes three Nobel laureates and the past President of the Chinese National Academy of Sciences. The Foundation has awarded over RMB 80 million to 1,000 outstanding Chinese scientists and researchers. The 2006 awards ceremony took place in the Great Hall of the People on Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.
